One Community In One Spirit

Celebrate Pentecost Sunday

May 11, 2008, 10:15 A.M. Mass
East Campus of Saint Thomas More Church

Please Note: There are NO Masses at 4:15 p.m. on
Saturday or at 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Sunday

We will be celebrating the living power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst and also have a "Rite of Sending" for our young people who will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Cathedral of St. Paul on Sunday, May 18.

Following our Pentecost liturgy we will share hospitality with each other, celebrate the successful conclusion of our community's "More Connections Campaign" and also hold a "Dedication and Blessing" ceremony for our "Mothers' Peace Garden". It promises to be a festive and Spirit-filled day of joyful celebration.

Wishing All Moms Everywhere a Very Blessed Mothers Day!

Dear Blessed Mother Mary,

help my mom to be a good mother.

Give her peace and wisdom,

strength and courage,

grace and happiness.

Be nearby when she needs help.

Keep her close to your Son, Jesus.

Help me to always show my mom

how very much I love her.

Amen.

More Worship

Jesuit Media Initiatives brings you Pray-as-you-go, an initiative to provide daily prayer in MP3 format, for people travelling to an from work. An open, public trial of pray-as-you-go was conducted during the Lent 2006, and then extended into the Easter season.

After more than 250,000 prayer sessions were downloaded by people all over the world, it was decided to continue Pray-as-you-go indefinitely. By May 2007, over two million prayer sessions had been downloaded.  Why not give it a try? Visit www.pray-as-you-go.org

Meditative Singing

(reproduced with permission from Brother Jean-Mark of the Taizé Community in France)

Singing is one of the most essential elements of worship. Short songs, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times, this reality gradually penetrates the whole being. Meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to God. It allows everyone to take part in a time of prayer together and to remain together in attentive waiting on God, without having to fix the length of time too exactly.

To open the gates of trust in God, nothing can replace the beauty of human voices united in song. This beauty can give us a glimpse of "heaven’s joy on earth," as Eastern Christians put it. And an inner life begins to blossom within us.

These songs also sustain personal prayer. Through them, little by little, our being finds an inner unity in God. They can continue in the silence of our hearts when we are at work, speaking with others or resting. In this way prayer and daily life are united. They allow us to keep on praying even when we are unaware of it, in the silence of our hearts.
